Vet Nurses

Veterinary nurses play an integral role in the collecting and testing of pathology samples, and it is vital that they are able to understand how to perform testing correctly and efficiently and also to communicate effectively with the veterinarian and clients on the outcomes. During this workshop we will discuss common pathology tests conducting in practice, how to collect them, correct sample storage and testing procedures. Attendees will have the opportunity to perform a range of pathology tests to hone their skills.

  • Understanding Antigen testing and results
  • Performing a Packed Cell Volume and Total Protein test

  • Set up and use of a microscope including care and cleaning
  • Fine Needle Aspirate sample collection and preparation
  • Performing cytology
  • Urine collection and sampling
  • Urinalysis – specific gravity, dipstick and wet preparation of slides
  • Swab samples – ear and skin
