One-day wet lab and workshop for Veterinarians

A focused surgical training workshop covering commonly performed urogenital procedures in general practice. This session includes analsaculectomy, perineal urethrostomy (PU), cystotomy, and vulvoplasty techniques.

Participants will develop their approach to tissue handling and decision-making to support safe, efficient, and confident performance of urogenital surgery in everyday clinical practice.

Key learning areas:

  • Perform common urogenital and gastrointestinal surgical procedures encountered in general practice
  • Perform a systematic abdominal exploration using a consistent, repeatable approach
  • Identify and assess abdominal organs for gross abnormalities
  • Avoid common errors such as incomplete exploration
  • Identify appropriate indications and make informed intra‑operative decisions about biopsy, repair, referral, or closure
  • Minimise tissue trauma and contamination during GI surgery
  • Select appropriate techniques and suture patterns for gastrointestinal surgery
  • Recognise complications early and the factors that increase risk, and plan appropriate post‑operative care or referral
