Vet Nurses

Taking patients care to the next level, students build confidence in structured assessment, blood parameter interpretation, IV fluid therapy, wound care, and SMART-goal nursing plans – while learning to integrate nutrition directly into clinical decision making. This module bridges foundational knowledge and genuine clinical competence.

Key learning areas:

  • Conduct structured patient assessments combining clinical signs, PCV/TP trends, and pain scoring
  • Interpret key blood parameters including glucose, renal values, and electrolytes in context
  • Operate monitoring equipment including SpO₂, Doppler BP, and temperature probes
  • Calculate and administer IV fluid therapy across maintenance and surgical rates using manual and pump delivery
  • Perform wound and bandage care and apply appropriate isolation protocols
  • Support assisted and syringe feeding, document intake, and recognise nutritional deterioration
  • Calculate RER, apply illness factors, and recognise early signs of refeeding syndrome
  • Build, update, and communicate SMART-goal nursing care plans incorporating fluids, monitoring, nutrition, and pain
  • Apply NAC SOC documentation and monitoring standards in a GP setting
