Vet Nurses

Triaging and emergency patient care are essential skills all veterinary nurses should learn. This workshop is designed to give the emergency nurse a strong grounding in all areas of emergency veterinary nursing, with a practical focus on understanding CPR and performing high quality basic life support in teams.

Please note that we also offer an ECC for Veterinary Nurses II (day 2) workshop to complement this session.

Key learning areas:

  • Triaging including the phone and in hospital triage, the primary and secondary assessment and assigning the triage category using a triage acuity system in emergency patients
  • The main shock classifications and the emergency treatment and stabilisation of patients presenting in shock
  • IV fluid therapy and resuscitation, and the different methods of venous access in the emergency patient
  • Monitoring and monitoring equipment for the emergency and critical patient
  • The intubation process in emergency patients
  • Cardiopulmonary resuscitation with special emphasis on basic life support
