Two day workshop

Vet Nurses

Triaging and emergency patient care are essential skills all veterinary nurses should learn. Day 1 of this workshop is designed to give the emergency nurse a strong grounding in all areas of emergency veterinary nursing, with a practical focus on understanding CPR and performing high quality basic life support in teams.

Key learning areas:

  • Triaging including the phone and in hospital triage, the primary and secondary assessment and assigning the triage category using a triage acuity system in emergency patients
  • The main shock classifications and the emergency treatment and stabilisation of patients presenting in shock
  • IV fluid therapy and resuscitation, and the different methods of venous access in the emergency patient
  • Monitoring and monitoring equipment for the emergency and critical patient
  • The intubation process in emergency patients
  • Cardiopulmonary resuscitation with special emphasis on basic life support
